An Agent-Based Approach to Extending the Native Active Capability of Relational Database Systems

چکیده
Event-condition-action (or ECA) rules are used to capture active capability. While a number of research prototypes of active database systems have been built, ECA rule capability in Relational DBMSs is still very limited. In this paper, we address the problem of turning a traditional database management system into a full-fledged active database system without changing the underlying system. The advantages of this approach are: transparency; ability to add active capability without changing the client programs; retain relational DBMS's underlying functionality; and persistence of ECA rules using the native database functionality. In this paper we describe how complete active database semantics can be supported on an existing SQL Server (Sybase, in our case) by adding a mediator, termed ECA Agent, between the SQL Server and the clients. ECA rules are fully supported through the ECA Agent without changing applications or the SQL Server. Composite events are detected in the ECA Agent and actions are invoked in the SQL Server. Events are persisted in the native database system. ECA Agent is designed to connect to SQL Server by using Sybase connectivity products. The architecture, design, and implementation details are presented in this paper.

Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...

The pioneer work of image compression/reconstruction based onfuzzy relational equations (ICF) and the related works are introduced. TheICF regards an original image as a fuzzy relation by embedding the brightnesslevel into [0,1]. The compression/reconstruction of ICF correspond to thecomposition/solving inverse problem formulated on fuzzy relational equations.Optimizations of ICF can be consequ...

In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...

In this paper, two sets of sufficient conditions are obtained to ensure the existence and stability of a unique equilibrium point of unforced first-order fuzzy relational dynamical systems by using two different approaches which are both based on the fuzzy relational matrix of the model. In the first approach, the equilibrium point of the system is one of the centers of the related membership fu...
